Kat Burgers about designer owner staff

Tell us about yourself?

I always say I grew up all over – South Dakota, Tennessee, Arizona, California – never going to one school more than 2-3 years. Since settling in Phoenix as a teenager, I refer to it as home since it’s the place I’ve lived the longest. As an adult I spent 10 years in California and absolutely loved it, but I returned to Phoenix in 2014 to be close to my family.

I have a background in restaurant and office management, but I’ve always been an artist at heart. Whether it be music, painting, photography, etc., art has been a staple in my life since I was a kid. In the past couple years I began dabbling in graphic design, which then led me to begin designing t-shirts.

Where does the name “Etab” come from?

Etab (pronounced EE-tab) is an acronym of my nephew’s initials. The main reason I moved back to Phoenix was to help take care of my nephew. He is a major part of my life and when I chose the name of the brand I wanted a name that had significance to me, so I named it after him.

Why do charitable shirts?

Volunteering and giving back has been part of my life since I was a kid. It’s something that’s always been important to me. One of my favorite quotes is “A life not lived for others, is not a life.” I really believe that. I think one of the purposes of life is to help and be of service to others. If we are living a life that is completely focused on ourselves, there is no point. The charitable shirts allow me to incorporate those ideas into my brand and share the opportunity to give back with my clients.
